Although Bethesda Game Studios hasn’t yet confirmed where The Elder Scrolls 6 will be set, there’s been no shortage of speculation online – but according to series veteran and beloved “loremaster” Kurt Kuhlmann, developers have perhaps had an idea of where for a while.

Or, well, as far as he knows anyway – it has been quite a long time, after all. “From when we were talking about it way back in the Fallout 4 timeframe,” he tells PC Gamer in a recent interview, “there was a sort of consensus amongst a few people that were talking about it.” As stated, though, the place they were considering might not be where The Elder Scrolls 6 will actually unfold come its release date… whenever that is.

Kuhlmann confirms as much, clarifying that this “consensus” was by no means a solid plan, and he’s been away from the Bethesda sphere himself for a good while. “We had an idea, but it was more of a consensus, like, ‘OK, where should the next game be?’ And the people who were talking all agreed. It was not an argument. It was like, ‘Well, obviously, it should be here.’ We were more in the feel of it, in the setting; there was no story involved yet.”

But, again, Kuhlmann hasn’t “been involved in that level of the story side of things since Skyrim” – and, believe it or not (I know I don’t, at the ripe age of 26 now), over 14 years have passed since Skyrim’s own launch. I’m choosing, as a dedicated Elder Scrolls stan, to take this as some sort of confirmation nonetheless. Of what? I’m not really sure, but I’m hanging on to literally anything possible at the moment, if I’m honest.

A grueling seven years have now passed since The Elder Scrolls 6 debuted with its short teaser trailer at E3 in 2018, guys. Very little about the upcoming RPG has surfaced since then, rubbing salt into my ever-growing wound – and no, I’m not counting passing references like the small post-Oblivion Remastered mention from Todd Howard or the NPC auction that raised $85,000. I would love to know where the game will take place.

The most popular theories online include Hammerfell and High Rock, but I personally do yearn for something as weird as Morrowind, with all the strange humor, if I’m being real here. Who knows – only time will tell… and I’m sure there’s plenty yet to go.
